This course will provide a great head start to Latin American Percussion and Cajon Playing Techniques. This well-structured course consists of 4 modules that educates students about the fundamentals of percussion, training in basic time signatures, 12 basic Cajon fingering patterns and basic polyrhythms. On completion, students will have a good understanding of the Latin American percussion system and will be ready to play the basic lessons on the Cajon.

  • Introduction to African Percussion and Tribal Sounds
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 10 hours

    A brief introduction to African music, Fundamentals, Styles and Techniques.
  • Basic Fingering Patterns
    Difficulty: Medium
    Number of Hours: 12 hours

    First 12 major fingering patterns involving both hands and their implementation in basic time signatures.
  • Basic time signatures
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 15 hours

    Introduction to how time signatures work, calculations and exercises in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, 3/2, 4/3, 3/8 time signatures.
  • Introduction to Polyrhythms.
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 10 hours

    Polyrhythms are formed when two or more different meters are played at the same time and at the same linear tempo. This module involves basic lessons and exercises in polyrhythms.

Overview

In this course, students will be trained in Rhythm reading, advanced time signatures, advanced Cajon fingering patterns, ways to implement the fingering patterns in different time signatures and implementation of fingering patterns in Polyrhythms. On completion of this course, students would have achieved a good control over the instrument, ready to play a simple solo or accompany simple songs on Cajon.

    Rhythm reading theory and exercises.
  • Advanced Fingering Patterns

    Exercises in 12 advanced fingering patterns involving both hands and thier implementation in all time signatures.
  • Advanced time signatures
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 10 hours

    Introduction and Training all time signatures (3,4,5,7 and 9) and implementation of all 24 patterns in all time signatures.
  • Implementation of fingering patterns in polyrhythms
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 12 hours

    Introduction to advanced polyrhythms and exercises to implement all 24 patterns in advanced polyrhythms.

Overview

This course helps the students master in Cajon by incorporating techniques from different genres of percussion like Konnakol from Indian Percussion, Song accompaniment techniques from Western percussion and so on. This course also involves a training on how to play as a part of a band and in musical concerts of different genres. On completion, students would have a complete knowledge about the Percussion art and would have achieved a great control over the instrument.

    Lessons that focuses on understanding world music, techniques to accompany different styles of african music and other musical genres, solo perfomance techniques.
  • Mastering Djembe through Konnakol
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 15 hours

    Konnokol is the art of performing percussion syllables vocally in south indian music. In the following lessons, we are going to master in our instrument by understanding Indian Percussion System and by using Konnakol as a tool.
  • Concert and Band Performance Training
    Difficulty: Easy
    Number of Hours: 10 hours

    Lessons that focus on polishing the skills learnt throughout the course, techniques to play with other percussion instruments like Drums or Mridangam. Training to improve on stage presentation skills to perform better as a part of a band and in music concerts.

The system has an in-built video call classroom that works on the all major browsers. All you need is a laptop/desktop with camera and microphone attached and any one of the above mentioned browsers installed.
