Overview

In this course, students will be trained in the fundamentals of Carnatic music and Flute blowing & fingering techniques. The course is made of 5 modules that focuses on the teaching the students to play the basics of carnatic music upto the Geetham and Swarajathis level on the Flute. On the completion of this course, students will be ready to play very simple carnatic songs (Krithis) on the Flute, thereby making them eligible for the Intermediate level in which they will be learning Varnams and Krithis.

Prerequisites

Students who are New to music, New to carnatic music, New to Flute, People who have had training in other forms of music but new carnatic Flute.

  • Introduction to Carnatic music and Music theory
    Difficulty: Easy
    Duration: 1 hour

    A brief introduction to Carnatic music, Indian Carnatic Raaga and Thala system.
  • Varisaigal
    Difficulty: Easy
    Duration: 10 hours

    Lessons that teach the fundamental ascending and descending melody sequences. This module also includes Aakaram training.
  • Alankaram
    Difficulty: Medium
    Duration: 8 hours

    Alakarams are lessons composed in a variety of thalams that focuses on improving the rhythm aspects of the student. It involves singing/playing the notes in different speeds.
  • Geetham and Swarajathi
    Difficulty: Medium
    Duration: 10 hours

    These simple lessons give the students a great exercise on combining the melody, notes and the thala.
  • Simple Krithis
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 10 hours

    Basic carnatic songs with a focus on improving the melody aspects of singing/playing.

Overview

This course is focussed on improving the Flute blowing /fingering techniques and the Carnatic music depth of the students. This is achieved by training the students to play the Aadhi thala and Ata thala varnams in different speeds and Intermediate level Krithis on the Flute. On completion of this course, the students will be able to handle the instrument with a higher level of confidence and will be ready to play intermediate level songs on the Flute.

Students who have learnt Carnatic Flute upto Geetham level and above.

  • Aadhi Thala Varnams
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 30 hours

    A minimum of 8 Aadhi thala varnams. This module also include Voice/Fingering training in different raagams.
  • Ata Thala Varnams
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 15 hours

    Any one Ata Thala varnam.
  • Intermediate Level Krithis
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 25 hours

Overview

This course provides in depth Carnatic Flute training that includes playing complex varnams in different speeds, advanced level krithis (including 1 Pancharathna Krithi) and techniques to achieve dexterity over the instrument. This course also focuses on Kalpana swara training and Raaga Aalapana training. On completion of this course, students will be able to handle the instrument with great ease and play complex Carnatic music krithis with simple kalpana swaras, neravals and raga aalapanas.

Students who have learnt Carnatic Flute upto Varnam level and above.

    An introduction to important concepts that are mandatory to understand before going into advanced lessons.
  • Advanced Varnams
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 50 hours

    A minimum of 10 aadhi thala and 5 ata thala varnams in atleast 2 degree speeds with Thisram. This module also include Voice/Fingering training in different raagams.
  • Advanced Krithis
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 50 hours

    A minimum of 10 vilamba kaala (Slow Speed) and Dhuritha Kaala (Fast Speed) advanced krithis.
  • Pancharathna Krithis
    Difficulty: Professional
    Duration: 50 hours

    Any two Pancharathna krithis.
  • Basic Raaga Aalapana and Swara Kalpana training
    Difficulty: Professional
    Duration: 40 hours

    Lessons to train the students in simple Raaga Alapana and kalpana swara techniques.

The system has an in-built video call classroom that works on the all major browsers. All you need is a laptop/desktop with camera and microphone attached and any one of the above mentioned browsers installed.

If you wish you take the classes on your phone, you can use the Bmusician app. Bmusician App is available both on Android and iOS.

There are basically two ways to get started with the classes. Live 1-to-1 or a Shared Slot. In case of LIVE 1-to-1, you can click the Enrol button below, tell us your time preferences i.e. when you will be free to take up the classes. We will allocate you a Teacher and Timeslot based on your preferences.
