Overview

Tamil is one of the oldest (Dates back to 300 BC.), finest and the longest-surviving classical languages in the world. Tamil is believed to have been bought to the earth by the god himself. The sweetness and the divinity of the language is a proof for the same. Tamil, thanks to the vast vocabulary and variety of syllables, has also produced some of the finest poets like Thiruvalluvar, Manikkavasagar, Nakeerar, Papanasam Sivan, Andal and so on, whose works have been appreciated and quoted by scholars all over world. Bmusician is proud to launch this ‘Tamizhisai’ course, which is the first of its kind, aims at teaching the students some of the gems of Tamil literature like the Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, Andal Thiruppavai and so on, tuned in beautiful Indian Carnatic Ragas. In this Beginner level course, students will learn the basics of Carnatic music, Panniru Thirumurai, Thiruppugazh, Naalaayira Divya Prabandham, Papanasam Sivan and Mahakavi Bharathiyar songs written by some of the greatest poets of the language - Thirugnaana Sambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, Sundhara moorthi nayanar, Manikkavasagar, Karaikkal Ammaiyar, Andal, Papanasam Sivan and Mahakavi Bharathiyar respectively. The course provides a fun and exciting way to learn some of the greatest works of the Tamil literature.

Prerequisites

Students who are new to vocal music. students have learn carnatic music before but new to Tamil music, student looking to improve in Tamil music

Syllabus

  • Basics of Carnatic and Tamil Music
    Difficulty: Easy
    Duration: 4 hours

    In this module, the students will be trained in the basics of Carnatic music that includes Varisaigal, Alankarams and Geethams. This module will not cover all the basic Carnatic concepts in depth but will take a quicker yet effective route. This module is important for this course because the Tamil songs that are later taught in the course are tuned in simple ragas (Scales) of Carnatic music. However, this module is not mandatory. If you are already familiar with the basics, you can directly start with module 2.
  • Panniru Thirumurai
    Difficulty: Medium
    Duration: 20 hours

    In this module, students will learn selected songs from Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, Thiruvembavai, Thiruppallandu, Thiruvisaippa, Thirumandiram, Thirumugappasuram and Periyapuranam.
  • Thiruppugazh
    Difficulty: Medium
    Duration: 20 hours

    In this module, students will learn atleast 6 - 8 songs from Thiruppugazh written by the great poet Arunagirinadhar.
  • Naalaayira Divya Prabandham
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 20 hours

    In this module, students will learn selected songs written by the great Aazhvaars - Panniru Aazhvaar Pasuram, Thiruppavai, Nacciyar Thirumozhi by Andal.
  • Papanasam Sivan Krithis
    Difficulty: Hard
    Duration: 20 hours

    Students will learn some simple songs (Keerthanais) composed by the Papanasam Sivan.
  • Bharathiyar Songs
    Difficulty:Hard
    Duration: 10 hours

    Students will learn some simple songs composed by Mahakavi Bharathiyar.

The system has an in-built video call classroom that works on the all major browsers. All you need is a laptop/desktop with camera and microphone attached and any one of the above mentioned browsers installed.

If you wish you take the classes on your phone, you can use the Bmusician app. Bmusician App is available both on Android and iOS.

There are basically two ways to get started with the classes. Live 1-to-1 or a Shared Slot. In case of LIVE 1-to-1, you can click the Enrol button below, tell us your time preferences i.e. when you will be free to take up the classes. We will allocate you a Teacher and Timeslot based on your preferences.

For Shared slots, you can click on the Teachers tab above, click the instructor you are interested in and select a timeslot that suits you and complete enrollment.
